Texas State Meeting 2023

Been planning this since it was initially announced ... ... hell, already looking forward to '24 in Austin and '25 in Granbury area!   I'd told a few about it, but was fairly quiet overall.  Chief couldn't make it due to other plans.  Dutch locked in towards the end.  Goose had mentioned a week or so out, and we had similar routes so we locked in together.  Smitty would join us.  Boudreaux was in from the get-go.   Boot's was quiet about it all, but showed.   So, Thursday morning at 0900 most of us met in Cash TX and rolled South.  We took the 'long' way on 2 lanes and hit some construction towards Ennis that cost us a half hour...but... overall ... stayed dry, temps rocked in the low 80s, and had a great ride with zero incidents .. well, if you don't count a brutal pothole or two, and our airborne pack flying over a railroad track worthy of Dukes of Hazzard footage?   All arrived in one piece.   Split off to 3 different hotels and cleaned it up.

Sipped on a cold one at the hotel, then over to Jokers Bar/Grill for our meet and greet.  Several miles down the road, we're rolling into an evening worthy of mention.  Outside area was packed, saw a lot of familiar faces, beers were flowing, appetizers were good and ....  we're decompressing and starting this weekend off right.  Wine Joe has joined us coming in earlier that day. Never ceases to amaze me all the familiar faces from other chapters you see at these.  Before we get lit up, we're rolling back to our respective hotels....  where...we head downstairs for some nightcaps.  Our hotel (Marriott Courtyard) is having a reunion for the First Cav so we get to meet a lot of good folks and share a few stories.  Few of them rode with the Vietnam Vets MC over the years and shared of few of their stories and pics.   Closed down the bistro in the lobby ... and pulled the plug.

Lucy is rolling in today caging it, so our morning is calm and relaxed.  Around 1145 she rolls in, unpack the Jeep, get her leathered up and we're headed out for grub.  We decided an a hole in the wall called Tank's Pub a few miles down the road.  Their cook never showed, but we had some cold ones, started the day off right with good stories, shared a few with the waitress (stories) .. .and .. we're off to find some real food; Tilted Kilt it is.   Five of us park it (Smitty has joined us), about another various dozen CVMA members behind it.. and soon eating some great food.  Waitress is a rock star, and she's a hit with our group.    But, we've got bike night still so take a break at the hotel a mile away, then head out a few miles to the VFW which is .. packed!   They get us parked in the mix of the party, vendors everywhere, colds ones served inside and we find the rest of 23-11 and have our own lil party in the mix.  Hollywood, Mario and Wingnut are now in the mix coming in earlier that day.  Music is jamming around us, Pizzas from one of the vendor trucks is truly awesome, buckets of beer that Mario provided.... what more could you ask for?  Towards the end, Matt/Roadrunner is cranking tunes via his FLTR Roadglide ... and ... I'm friggin drooling.  This is borderline concert shit...  sounded awesome.  I'm soon asking questions, figure out who did his work ( they had their SxS next to us also cranked) .. and .. I'm scheming. I really need to take my FLTRX down there and have it done right......soon.  I'm starting to get a lil fired up so it's time to head back, while we still can!  LOL.  Fifteen minutes later, hotel, cleaned up, back to the lobby.  Really liking this place.

23-11 Audie Murphy Chapter
(post mtg pic)

Well, it's day of the meeting.  Moving a lil' slow, start time of 0900 so we get there with time to spare, locate everyone,   Mario has the guidon and parks us up near the front, we've got plenty of space (gotta' stretch out!) and by 0900 we've got the meeting started.  We've got a lot of folks here, but the extra seating makes it look ... 'underpopulated'.  We normally have 400+ at these, so should be interesting to hear what the final attendance numbers are.  A lot of things are going on this morning.   Dutch will brief the 23-11 SCOM for next year.  We get a teaser for the '24 State in Austin.  CONT will be elected our new Texas SAA (we have two in TX due to our size; approximately 10% of the total CVMA!), with KELLOSO stepping down after seven nears (!) Damned that was a close election with Ocho and Cout having to do a runoff.  For '25, Kerrville and Granbury were options with the Granbury chapter getting the vote.   Gotta' admit, I'd hoped for Kerrville for it's awesome riding (3 sisters, etc), but Granbury should be a friggn' blast with some of what they have proposed ( Rodeo, allowed to walk the streets with open containers, etc).  We patched in over a half dozen new members, folks were awarded the Texas Honor Roll patch (which is a big deal!), few were awarded the S&B Patch via Region Rep (again .. a big deal!) ... and several that earned the 23 RIDE TEXAS patch (have to visit ALL 30 chapters).  Dutch asked me about that one .. and ... you know.. I may go for it. I'm already at the 25% mark.. maybe... 2024 is the year to do another 10 or 20 chapters?   Damned it.. got me thinking!   Outside saw Larissa ("Slurpee") from 23-15 and she and Lucy finally got to meet.  She and her hubby have been all over the map and we'll probably see them at a 44-1 event towards the end of the month. After the meeting, do a group pic and our chapter decided to head back to the Tilted Kilt (most hadn't been there) and we're greeted by our fav' waitress (who'd also showed up at the VFW the night before) and there are two other huge groups of CVMA in there.  Bam!   There is an after party which ... I'd planned/assumed we'd hit, but the 4 of us never leave our hotel.  It's a beautiful day, so we hang out around the pool, then back to the lobby / bistro, grab chinese from next door ... and as always... damned .. time to pull the plug.  Tomorrow we head home.

Lucy is packed up in the Jeep around 0800 and headed out.  Hollywood and Wingnut left the day before.  Rest of us are mounted  up and headed out by 1000 hrs.  We've opted to head straight up I-35 since it's a Sunday and make some good time. I really prefer 2 laners, but this will play out nicely.  In Terrel we decided to detour for a few cold ones at SWG and some grub.   Turns out to be the perfect finale to a great weekend.

Barely made it through a movie last night.  Didn't realize how exhausted I was.  After nine hours of coma time in that bed.... here I am typing.   And, planning my next ride. Can't help myself....

The Guitar Reveal

What a great evening.  Week or so ago, SwampRat let us in on a secret...a plan .. he had.  Back in '18 this guitar was won in a raffle at an event that Dutch hosted for around a decade.  Well, over the years it got some abuse.  SwampRat came into possession of it, had it 'restored' and had as many of the chapter in as possible, with no knowledge for what was about to go down.  I believe Dutch was truly overwhelmed with this gesture and the guitar is now where it should be.
Overall the afternoon/evening rocked.  Short scenic ride to SWG for 1/2 of us, great fellowship ..... felt like .. the way it's supposed to feel like?  I see good days ahead for 23-11.

 REGION 5 RALLY

Man .. been planning this one for 11 months... as soon as I caught wind of dates .. blocked the calendar.  Hotel locations? Reservations made in La Vernia.  Location change?  New reservations in Floresville.  Had put this out there on GIO eleven months ago.  Crickets.  Put it out there to my local guys I ride with "Senor Rebels" ...   only Chief could make the ride.  So, Friday morning we're headed out.  Weather forecast says possible rain, but we won't feel a drop over the next few days.....

KRUSH

Two Lanes, Day One

We decide to head south on two laners to enjoy a stress free ride.   I broke one of my own rules and didn't 'plan' out the route and keep it on my gas tank with roads/turns.  I simply put  La Vernia in the GPS and told it to avoid highways.   For the next several hours we were going down roads I'd never heard of before, but I could see on the GPS screen it made sense.   But... La Vernia?  Yeah.. I messed that one up.  They are close together, but ... when we were south of Austin it was messing with my GPS directions...  To add a lil fuel to the fire....   it got HOT.   Was in the upper 70s when we left, but 1/2 there was up to 99.  By the time we'd roll in it had been 103/104 for over an hour.  WTF?   Last few stops I was pouring a water over my head for every one I chugged.   But, we survived.....  Checked in, showered up, cooled down ... and we're off

We headed to Bike Night which is closer to La Vernia/San Antonio at Texas Pride BBQ.  This place was awesome, reminding me of Strokers with the way they integrate bike parking in the mix.   Nice and cool in the shade, BBQ wasn't too bad, beers were ice cold , bartenders were cute and served them up with comments (working them tips!).  Saw Skrape right off the bat, few other folks from 6-1 we keep running into, headed over to 23-25s table and picked up some challenge coins and a Region 5 etched knife ...  and enjoyed the evening.  But, couple hours later we snuck out and headed back (about 25 min ride).  Grabbed a 12 pack on the way back to the hotel .. and .. pulled the plug.

Morning is quickly upon us and headed over the event center.  You could swipe in the night before or here at the entrance.  We're soon gobbling breakfast burritos, the meeting is under way at 0900, patch in ceremony for a full member and an aux.  Then, 99% of the place emptied out, mounted bike and headed to a local Veterans home and Boomers for a drive by.  Boomer was in an awful bike accident a few weeks back and is laid up.  I don't know any details beyond the fact someone did a U turn on him in the middle of a 2 lane country road and took him out.  Broken wrists, ribs .. lots of broken ribs...   lacerated liver .. etc.   Brutal.  So, about 200(?) bikes rolled out and headed out of town.   Got to admit riding through both the Veterans home and Boomers neighborhood teared me up.   Boomer was able to get out in the street as we roared by him showing our love and respect.  Then, we're back to Floresville.  Most headed back to the Event Center; may ass was back to the hotel to get out of the heat and throw down a few cold ones.  Later on that afternoon, back to the Event Center to visit with folks, won a bottle of bourbon via the raffle, didn't win the cool AR15, got some ink on my forearm... then ...back to the hotel.  Grabbed the remaining twelve pack, headed down stairs and drank a few with my brothers down there.

We're determined to beat the heat so alarm set for 0500, leg over the bike at 0600 and we're rolling.  Since it's a Sunday morning (less traffic) make the decision to take the fastest route.  We're soon on 130 (tollway) where the speed limit is posted at 85, and we're rolling a notch under 90.  Hour later, sucking gas, feeling up and .....   rolling.  Temps are still in the 80s and this ain't as brutal as the trip down.  We jump onto Hwy 34 at Italy and ....   less traffic and BS.  By the time we roll into the driveways a lil past 1130 hrs, temps are  low 90s, and we put a lil over 800 miles on the last 60 hrs or so.

Next up ..... .TX State in a few weeks down in Killeen (Ft Hood)!

Time to Step up

Nominated for Chapter Commander.  Accepted the Nomination last night.  Bio sent in a few moments ago.   Voting at the next meeting. Next month I step into the role or we continue down the current path.

Let's see what the future holds........

CC ... getting called out

Well, about 11 months ago I was talking shit and wrote it here  >>  (If I was Commander ....) <<.  I was dissatisfied with the way things were being run and ranted in my own way, here about a 'what if' situation.  I was thinking about "what would I do... how would I do it...." few years from now when I stepped up.  What I didn't see coming was what happened the following month.

Some of the folks I was 'unhappy' with, with how they managed, were now trying to boot me from the Organization using our bylaws as the basis.  I still disagree with how it all went down. I disagree with the follow on 'punishment.'   That all being said, I understand a protocol was violated.  However, I personally believe a few POS's were simply trying to boot me.  The humorous part now is most of them are gone themselves.  Good.  A House Cleaning was needed. If I see them out in public I doubt I'll even acknowledge their presence.  Good Riddens. Bye. See Ya Bitches.

Is what it is.  Folks did what they did either because they wanted to fuck me over or they got caught up in the herd mentality.  As I've stated before, I admit I was wrong.  I violated a protocol I was unaware had been updated literally days prior.  My timeline does not jive with the timeline of others during the investigation.  Sorry .. I was there.  I know when / how I did things.   I know why I did what I did.  But when the smoke cleared, at the core I fucked up.   Done.  Past. Obviously won't happen again.  Fact of the matter is ..... a discussion with the SAA and/or CC had they done their job here locally, would have brought the same solution, same result .... but ...ten months later, here we are.  When the smoke cleared I missed a few rides to Sanctioned events I'd planned. Shit happens. Additionally, got some clarity on how to handle things in the future, circles of trust .. blah blah ..

So, less than a year ago I found myself in a shitty spot. I was pissed beyond a point what many realized.  I considered a lot of options, but reminded myself of some of the things I've written about over the years.  So, I parked my emotions, waited things out, began planning on how to do additional things beyond my group here locally.  Decided how to handle some problem folks.  A plan to press on in a positive manner.  What I didn't plan on was the situation I'm now in.

Nominated for CC.  Wasn't on my radar.  Folks have brought it up multiple times the last few months, but I downplayed it.  Some have been trying to get me to do this for the last four years.  I may not have liked what I saw but I wasn't ready to step up. I travel a LOT.  Business travel and personal travel; my job is wherever I go. I take my laptop and cell phone and could work from the moon if AT&T could get their shit together with cell tower service?

Got to tell you ... the last five years have been interesting.  My first two years put a smile on my face.  Our CC .. hell, most of our CEB, were a lil' wild.  Probably too much drinking, too much cussing  .. but I dug it.  We had the young group .. and the ...um... lets call it the mature group.   Basically two cliques.  I belonged in the old group, but tried to hang with the young guys.  Then after some crazy BS, the chapter ...we ...found ourselves with an immature 'leader' who I thought was a mess, but it sort of worked.  Then he and I bumped heads, I didn't back off.  Few months later (nothing to do with me), he was out.  Threw in his backpatch.  My thought?  "Fucking Pussy."

Then we had a new 'leader'.  Never 100% trusted that one.  Always felt like there was a hidden agenda.  Some folks don't do well at the top; it goes to their head.  I believe this was the case.  Then this person came at some ... then me.  He failed .... then ... thew in his patch. Gone.  My thought?  Fucking Pussy.  Good news is he took a few other clowns with him.

Since then, we've been ... well .... just sort of staying afloat. Folks have stepped up.  Things are getting done.  But, deep down something feels off to me.  Maybe it's because of the shit that went down with me a few months back.  Maybe I'm right.  Maybe I'm wrong.  But either way ... I've been nominated to step up or shut up.

As I write this ... I believe I'll step up.  I've done my resume, with a humorous twist.  Yes, the position is a serious one.  But ....  I'm not that guy.  I still work a job and that shit has enough stress.  But our chapter ... doesn't need the BS ... the Drama ....  we need a group doing good things and enjoying the ride along the way.  Some believe I'm the person to step up and make that happen.  Problem is... I can't give 100%. But I believe me running at 75% ... 80% . 90% ... full throttle is more effective than what I've seen the last three years.  I travel for pleasure and business often.  Just need to keep my schedules straight.  Keep communications open between key players.  Attempt to steer a ship of sorts, in the correct direction?  It was pointed out to me 4 plus years ago, the CC doesn't really have any 'power.' Hell, you can't even really vote (I need to double check that fact).  Your job is to steer this ship full of  all of us Type A crazies and hold on for the ride?

We shall see....  still debating

WHOOPS.... wearing these will get your ass kicked!

Crazy what you can find if you look hard enough?  Now being stupid enough to put on a vest as a non member and wear it in Public .. that'd be risking one's life? :)

Rider Down! You okay?

Okay .. I'm an ass wipe.  Here's one of my Pet Peeves .........

You see this on Social Media (ex FB) all the time.   Hey .. bike down over by so and so .... everyone okay?  Check in!

Well .. now .. my Pet Peeve.   Lets say your group has 100 people in it.  How many saw that message?  Of those, how many respond? All those folks that didn't check in, doesn't anyone check on them?  Why not............   otherwise, what's the point of asking? See my point?

If I go down .... you'll hear about it from my wife... from a friend.... from the funeral director; somebody.   And when those posts go out worrying about folks, a tiny percentage of the time someone will give a description of the bike or other hints.  Sometimes when you realize it's not part of the group, there's no retraction .. and .. folks chime in for .. days.     If you're going to ask a group and/or friends,  then why not follow up with all those that don't respond after you don't get a response from the victim or ID of the person(s) down?.   WTF was the point of even asking otherwise?

There.... I feel better now

Who's on First?

When's the next meeting ... ... where's that meeting?  Who's riding this weekend on the major run? Who's on what committee?   Whatever the issue, question ...  the info has to reside ... somewhere.

Public Web Site ...   Groups IO  ...   Public FB Page .. Private FB Group ... FB Messenger chat group .. email.  Does your head hurt yet with all the options, where it resides .. or .. on all (that NEVER hapens)

Well...   we 'officially' use GIO.

Last meeting after our discussion about the annual costs of the Public Web Page and the  App that Smitty put together based on WIX.....   find myself looking at a few things

CVMA CHAPTER 23-11 CVMA2311@groups.io

Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 23-11

Group Information

Okay ... 34 members ....
Now .. my match via our public we page is 35 members ; FM/SM/Aux.  Close enough for military work?   So ....   the numbers sort of  jive.  Now, I can't see whom all the GIO members are .. but .. we can only assume the count is similar.  So ...Not too bad?

Now, move to The App.  Spaces by Wix .

I think it shows 14 Members that have created an account.  Only several of that 14 have ever posted there.  I'd hope everyone has Dl'd it has scanned the app to get a feel for it..  Still that's less than 1/2 our membership as I type this.

Smitty and I have been discussing the merits of both.  This came up because of the 23-11 web page costs during the last meeting.  I agree with him that this GIO page is somewhat archaic.  However, I do believe it serves it's purposes for business discussion, archival of all that info, etc.   I also agree with him it's not widely/heavily used by all.  But, neither is the FB page or Group.  The FB Messenger "Chapter Stuff" is, but that's not the best place for business discussion since it doesn't lend itself to the ability to index, archive, separate discussion, etc, etc.   And, not everyone uses it because.. it's tied to FB. So that, is basically a BS channel with a mix of other things in there.. that should probably be on GIO .. lol

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, but ...   if anyone seriously wants to move away from GIO they need to download the App or login from the public web page where you can see a duplicate of the App ( I like the smart phone app better) to test this out.  At some point (less than 12 months from now) we need to fully embrace either of these at some point for Official Chapter Communication. One OR the other.

My vote today is GIO.... but as I said.... the app is slick and nice and has a lot of functionality.. and ...  is modern and easy to use.  Ten or eleven months from now if the entire chapter isn't using that App I personally will be asking us not to renew our WIX subscription for our public page that allows the App functionality ($$).  Waste of money if not being utilized by the majority of the chapter.

Brotherhood - 1% style

Posted the below two pics on Social Media.  The quote stirred up a couple of responses.  Honestly wasn't trying to stir the pot at all... it simply .. hit home with me.

I've come to realize we're not all 'built' the same.  I've said for decades, I've got 3 circles of friends.  The Inner circle tends to be about a 1/2 doz folks at any one given time.  One to two might go in and out of that circle.  These are the folks you'd take the shirt off your back for.  The folks  that are there when you truly need them.  The one's you'd do 'anything' for and them for you. Heard the joke about needing someone to help get rid of the body?  Yeah .. that circle of friends.

The second circle is well... most of my friends.  They mean a lot to me. I care about them. I assume their feelings are the same.  Many of these folks I'm really tight with.  I'd do a lot for them.  Do a lot for them. Have done a lot for them.  I believe much of the feeling is mutual.   But they aren't around you every day usually.  They aren't on the phone with you often.  But... you're close.  Ask them to bring over a shovel or a back hoe and well.....   they ain't showing up?

The third circle is more like ... good acquaintances?  You consider them a friend but.....   do you depend on them?  Could you .. depend on them?  When was the last time you heard from them?  Would they be there with a pickup to help you move if you needed them?  Would they be over with 'things' to help if you were down and out?  Hell, if you found yourself in a bad situation .. think guys .. bars .. crazy shit .. and things got ugly, would they stay or run?  Most of those in the second circle would most likely jump into the fray.   This circle, is the majority.  There are hundreds in this outer circle.

But ...  that's not the point of this post.  Twenty years in the military; I made a LOT of good friends over those years.  Back in the day, we were sometimes in situations where we had each others back.  We were on missions and deployments that tested us. Over that twenty, you figured out whom had your back.  Whom not to trust 100%.  Whom were pussies?  Whom were the studs?  You realize, we're not all the same.  You realize you have to sometimes tread carefully.  Just a fact. Life.

After the military, comes a second career in the civilian world.  A dog eat dog world ($). I've rarely been the 'go for the throat' .. .'do whatever it takes' ... kind of guy.  I've usually been the guy that finds a gray area to make it work out for .... most.  It's worked for me. It's helped me be successful in life.  Still in the last 25 years or so ... I've found a few in that world I truly trust.  That i'd do almost anything for.  Forged life long friendships.  But....   few and far between.

Now.. the point of this post.  About a dozen years ago I joined a group of Riders that were pretty tight knit.   Some of them had been through a lot together.  I was late to the game IMHO but quickly forged some close relationships, some that exist today.  A handful.  Overall met a lot of great folks. Dozens and dozens of nice people; acquaintances?  I'm still part of that group, even though it's not on my main radar. Shoot me an invite to an event, I'll roll in.  Would be an awesome 'homecoming.'

A lil over five years ago, I found another group.  A group that mentally took me back to my military days for comaradire and having your buddy's back.  It's stirred deep emotions in me and I take it all seriously, probably too seriously.  Maybe not as much as some, but more than most I believe.  I spend way too much time over thinking things that could be portrayed as Drama.  Portrayed as .. 'who gives a shit anyways?" stuff.  But most of it all .... is pretty important to me.  But not everyone else feels the same.  Not everyone has the same set of values.  Not everyone is willing to go the distance?  I've watched folks over the last five plus years fall off the 'roster.'.  Many of those hailed the group as being great, worthy of our time and love ... etc.  Yes, I'm possibly overstating all this but ... simply trying to make a point.   I'm simply stating ... are you IN .. or are you OUT?   And if one is 'in', how the fuck do they say they are out a year or two later?    Were they simply full of shit about the patch.. the brotherhood ....all of it?   Hell, some of those idiots had ink showing their 'loyalty'.  Some of them gave a huge portion of their time towards it all... then.. like that .. they are gone.   Sometimes you become aware of their shenanigans that went on during their tenure.  Their cut throat BS behind the scenes. What happened to the brotherhood they spouted?  Hell, I'm still learning about some shit that went down late last year.  But with knowledge, comes.....  not power .. but....  hmmmm...   let me think on this one.  Understanding? Understanding whom to keep at bay .. at arms length ...  whom are true brothers .. and others whome are .... false?

You know... sometimes.... there is something to be said about the MC world.  For many .. most .. they have a true hardcore brotherhood.  Me, in some ways I look for that.  Crave it.   Pursue it.  Create it where I am.  At the same time at this point in my life, I'm too old to pursue some of that BS.  And for the 1%'ers , that's not my lifestyle.  At some point, that doesn't mesh with a successful, lawful life in my world.  But damned I envy that camaraderie.  That loyalty.  That hardcore brotherhood.  Still, with a few .. I have it.  But .. just a few.

Daughter bought me the book shown below for my B'Day and I devoured it in a couple of days. Found myself immersed in it, living vicariously through some of them crazy fuckers.   Man .. .what could have been?  Or ... not.   Not sure I ever could have immersed myself 100% into that world .   Lets just call it ... a good book?

WHOM .. will actually make it?

I love to ride.  Usually looking for an excuse.  Actually drives my wife bat shit; her ride?  Not so much.

I remember when this event popped up a few years ago and I tried to promote it locally.  Fell flat on deaf ears.  No biggee since they did an awful job of promoting it themselves and ... the whole thing just... went away.  They never did it.  Huh.  Weird.  They didn't even announce it canx.  Just .. went away.  Saw this flyer below when they first put it out and have been pushing it since.   Well, sort of .  Wingnut as our new Road Captain saw it and began pushing it.  So, looking forward to a group of us riding out there.... Funny background on this for '23.  I noticed it out there via their page.  But, there was no event advertised; anywhere.  Checked the National Sanctioned Calendar; nothing.  Checked the major groups; nothing. So I reached out to the POC and prodded and prodded and .... prodded.  Finally, they got it out there for most to see! Can't help myself sometimes.  Lack of knowledge by PROs and organizers drives me bat shit.

But... two issues.  First one is... something ain't right with me.  Last several times I've rode, I've had issues 1/2 way into the ride..  I've tried to figure out WTF is going on, but .. unsuccessful so far.   Mentioned my symptoms to the docs and get a deer in the headlights look.  So, I'm working on trying to find the solution.  Historically, I could throw a leg over a bike and do 4 digits of miles in a day.  My ass hurt, but I could do it.  Hot? Throw a bottle over water over the head and do another 100 miles.  But.... not so much anymore.   Seems like 50-100 miles down the road I get light headed, dizzy for a few seconds then usually it passes.  A few times I've had to pull over for it to pass.  But for the life of me I can't figure out ....why.   As I look back on things .. I've been dealing with this since March of 2021 when it happened coming back from Daytona Bike Week.  Hell, on a chapter ride I ended up in an ambulance.   So, I've been trying to sort through it all. Docs have changed up my meds.  No solution overall.  I've pulled back on my alcohol intake.  Not sure if that's been a player. Few weeks ago, talked to the docs and we cut my Amlodipine intake (blood pressure meds) in 1/2.  I've lost forty pounds and my BP has gotten on the low side, so trying that.  And I've pulled back my alcohol intake drastically.  To be honest, I don't think the alcohol is the issue, vs the dehydration that often occurs during that time frame.  So ....

The last ten days I've cut out all alcohol. Been staying hydrated.   Watching the weight.  Getting a shit load of sleep.  And this Saturday, we have the ride. Supposed to be another 100deg day and the sun / heat has really fucked with me as of late.  Why?  Don't know .  I used to LOVE riding in the 90s and watching others park the bikes... now..... I sometimes want to park that fucker.  But...... why?  What's changed?  Is it simply age?  The ticker? Something else I can't figure out?   Well....   Saturday we'll see how this plays out.  Going in to the ride as prepared as I can be to try and sort out what the cause is for those issues. Hate to admit it but I wear a helmet often now.  Used to not give a shit.  Now, I want to ensure if I am the cause, my brain cells possibly function after bouncing off the pavement? :)

BUT.... the real reason for this post.  As of late .. hell .. always .. from my perspective. .. our group ... doesn't ride.  I don't get it, I don't understand it.  We have a small subset we call the Senor' Rebels that ride often during the month.... 50+ miles here, 100+ miles there.  But ... the rest ... WTF?  Will they show?  Will they participate?  Do they give a shit?  What's the excuse going to be this time?  Or will folks even give excuses and just stay quiet as usual?

Saturday ... we find out

p.s.  This should be a great ride with lots of two laners and for the most part, a lack of CONCRETE

Arkansas State Rally

Few months back became aware of the AR State mtg coming up.   Normally, would have passed since I'd already been to Ft Smith during the Steel Horse Rally, but ....   I love the riding up that way.  It's only like 250 miles or so ... Chief and Kal are going so .. WTF .. I'm in.  Got a room at the Choctaw casino where the event is being held.....   now .. just time to wait.

The weekend is finally here and it's time to head out. I've decided to head to Little Rock the night before for personal reasons, then on to the Rally Friday morning.  Man it's hot.. .really hot.  I used to love the heat... brag about it all. Now, the shit wears me out.  Actually causes a few problems with me hydration related.   Well, my bike trip is now a cage trip but I'm determined to see this through. Turned around 40 miles out and switched vehicles. So Friday I roll up in the Grand Wagoneer, check in a lil before 3 and I'm ready.   Rested and ready. Checking in behind me is Chief and Kal whom rode up and ... they concur.. friggn' hot out there.  Hell, we'd have people doing upwards of a 1,000 miles in this heat; respect!

Cage Life

Well, unpack and head down to the meet and greet for some cold drinks and see some old friends. First one I come across is Larissa up from 23-15. Her and her hubby must have done something like 900?   Damned... you go!   Got to meet her hubby Mark finally ... good guy.   Cray-On is on her game working the rally, spreading the love.  Meet up with the new AR State Rep; nice guy.  Chief (Mic) is there at the entrance and get a chance to BS a lil.  Then folks from all over Texas are pouring in...  as well as other states.   When the smoke clears over 50% of the attendees are from out of state... damned!   Eventually, the stomach is growling so myself, Chief and Kal find ourselves at the casino bar/grill for some great food.   Few drinks at the bar .. check out the gambling (though abstained) .. and .. early night.   Something to be said for some good zzzzs.

Up bright and early and downstairs well in advance of the 0900 start time.  Again, more time to BS with folks, pick out the seat, grab some swag from various vendors. One of the chapters is pushing their version of "The Association" hats so grab one to add to the collection.  Shirt from 7-8 and Koozies.   Got the rally swag.... I'm good to go.  Now, start this meeting!  Got to tell you, I like these smaller ones.  I was at the MS one last month and similar. Around 250 folks, meeting is fast and over in about 2 hours.  As with the MS one, we have a ton of folks in attendance.  Skrape (SAA), Boomer (regional rep), Dudeman (State rep), and many more.  Lot of folks also in from LA of which Eagle was the highlight also as our guest speaker.  An OK Brother made all the competition trophies for basically nothing and they were beautiful.   All in all ....   next thing you know... meeting is over.  Swiped and time to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Normally, I'd be talking about the bike show. The bike night.  But .. I bailed.  Without a bike I felt out of place.  No where to ride.  So .. I went to Plan B.  Headed up to Fayetteville to visit a friend.  But that meeting?  It rocked.... next year, maybe I'll friggn' ride?

Over the last five years, something has become apparent to me.  I knew it with a few, but now realize it's most.  Most, have zero idea/clue how to find shit.  There  you go, in a nutshell.

Every year we hear .. how do I pay my National Dues?  Where can I get a new ID card?  The list goes on and on.....

The most important thing we have at our disposal in the CVMA is the 201 File.  Basically, it's the holy grail for us; with a repository with ALL our info. Yet, my understanding is the majority of folks never even look at it.  WTF? As a minimum, one's ICE info is there.. you know.. whom to contact if your body bounces off the Interstate and someone needs to call a family member or something along that lines.  There are sections with notes, sanctioned events, disciplinary actions .. even an 'other events'.  Under those 4 tabs is pretty much EVERYTHING that has occured during ones membership tenure.  Unless....

Unless... the info is missing.  Are you sure  your chapter meeting was recorded when you swiped?  Are you sure you got credit for that Sanctioned event? Are you sure you got credit for attending the National Meeting?  The list goes on and on.   One could argue....  'does it all matter?' .. well, I guess if one wants to plod along with their head in the sand and simply exist, probably not.  I would tell you it mattered for Lucy when it came time for Life Membership and we realized there was no record of her patching in at a Sanctioned Event. And yes, it bit her in the butt.  Hard reminder that our 201 file is OUR responsibility.  Yet .. most rarely look at it... assuming they ever have.

The FORUM.   This is an interesting one.  INCREDIBLE amount of info in there.  But, most never venture into it and do any reading.  A few do.. daily.   A few .. are the regular contributors.  But Tens of Thousands....  may not know it ever existed.   Of course, the computer skills of most are negligible and they'd probably just get lost in the maze.. but.. that's on them.  The info is there.

Finally...  the main website has a repository of documents...  info .. you name it, pertinent to everything we do (ex: ByLaws).  There is a list of ALL Chapters and their officers and .. the NBOD and regional and state resps. It's all there!

Last .. a link to the store (separate web site).  This is a plethora of items there.. from a new ID card to stickers, patches shirts, shorts, hats...  whatever you want to part $ for.

Yet...  a lot of folks don't even have a login to the national website or national store, much less visit it.

Go Figure..................

Final tidbit ....  while at the MS State Mtg last month, one of the Chapter Commanders mentioned they have a mentor program of sorts for new members.  Current members take them under their wing and get them up to speed on By Laws .. Protocols ..  201 files, etc.    Now that ... is a great idea!
